Why It Matters Who YOU Hire...

Why It Matters to Hire a Pest Control Company That Employs Certified and Licensed Operators

Not all pest problems are actually pest problems.

Sometimes, what looks like a simple nuisance is really a symptom of a much larger issue inside the home. That is exactly why it matters who you hire.

Recently, we worked with a client who had been dealing with tiny flies throughout her home for two years. She had already hired other pest control companies, and each time she was sold the same solution: recurring monthly interior spray treatments. The problem never went away.

Even worse, instead of identifying the true source, she was repeatedly told that the issue was caused by housekeeping and that she simply needed to clean more.

That advice was not only frustrating. It was wrong.

On our first visit, our technician recognized that these were moth flies, commonly associated with moisture, organic buildup, and plumbing-related breeding sites. The group most commonly referred to as moth flies or drain flies belongs to the family Psychodidae, and one of the most common species found in homes is Clogmia albipunctata. These flies are strongly associated with drains, sewage-related moisture, and other wet organic matter.

Persistent infestations can also point to a hidden leak or even a broken pipe beneath a slab or in a crawlspace.

That identification changed everything.

On the second visit, our technician narrowed the problem down further and pinpointed the section of the slab where the activity appeared to be originating.

On the third visit, a licensed professional plumber we know and trust inspected the area and confirmed the underlying plumbing issue.

The fourth visit was the final one.

No more endless spraying. No more guessing. No more blaming the homeowner for a problem she did not create.

This is the difference between a company that sells treatments and a company that knows how to investigate.

A licensed and properly trained pest control operator should understand that recurring pest activity often means one of two things: either the pest has been misidentified, or the true source has not been addressed. In the case of moth flies, surface treatments alone often fail because the insects are developing in protected breeding sites tied to moisture and decaying organic matter, not just flying around randomly in open living spaces.

Persistent Pest Activity Is a Warning Sign

This is the message homeowners need to hear:

Persistent pest activity is often a sign of a bigger issue going on.

When pests keep coming back, the answer is not always “spray more.” Sometimes the answer is to slow down, inspect properly, identify the species correctly, and trace the conditions that are allowing that pest to survive.

That is what trained professionals do.

They do not just treat symptoms. They diagnose causes. They connect the dots. And when needed, they coordinate with the right licensed trade professionals to solve the root issue.

The Real Value of Hiring Licensed Professionals

Hiring a company that only employs certified and licensed pest control operators means you are more likely to get:

  • Accurate pest identification

  • A science-based inspection process

  • Better recognition of moisture and structural clues

  • Fewer wasted treatments

  • A real path to solving the source of the problem

Anyone can sell a spray. Not everyone can solve the case.

The Bottom Line

If you are dealing with pest activity that keeps returning month after month, do not assume it is normal. Do not assume you just need more treatments. And do not let anyone convince you that the answer is always more spraying without a deeper inspection.

Sometimes pests are the clue.

And when you hire the right professionals, that clue can lead to the real problem — and the real fix.

Call the pros. Save yourself years of endless treatments. Solve the source, not just the symptom.
